UOWA Empowers Green Entrepreneurship through Riyada and Warith Elevate

The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa (PBUH) continues to drive Iraq’s transition toward a low-carbon and innovation-driven economy by supporting youth entrepreneurship and sustainable start-ups. Working side by side with the national Riyada initiative and its own Warith Elevate entrepreneurship programme, the university has become a leading hub in Karbala for training, mentoring, and empowering the next generation of green innovators.

Through these initiatives, more than 440 participants at UOWA have received certified training across 22 courses, resulting in 187 viable projects  many focused on sustainability and clean-energy technologies. The university’s commitment earned official recognition from the Office of the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Dr Hussein Falamrz.

Green Start-ups Driving the Low-Carbon Economy

Several standout projects emerging from the joint Riyada–Warith Elevate programme directly contribute to SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy:

Thermal Storage Unit Project: Enhances energy efficiency through latent-heat storage technology, improving renewable-energy integration in cooling systems.

Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) Project: Develops reliable switch panels that modernise energy infrastructure and reduce dependence on inefficient power sources.

Corner Project (Solar-Powered Restaurant): Demonstrates clean-energy use in small-scale business operations, fully powered by solar panels inside a repurposed shipping container.

Building a Sustainable Innovation Culture

Together, Riyada and Warith Elevate exemplify UOWA’s vision of linking education with real-world sustainability. By nurturing entrepreneurship and supporting low-carbon technologies, the university ensures its graduates become drivers of Iraq’s sustainable economic future  where innovation and environmental responsibility grow hand in hand
