Climate Action, Engagement & Adaptation

The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa views climate action as both an institutional duty and an educational mission. Through awareness, innovation, and resilience planning, the university prepares its community to address the global climate challenge.

Highlights:

·        Awareness & Education:

o   Hosted sessions on “Climate Change and Water Scarcity in Iraq” during the 6th International Conference on Engineering Sciences (2023).

o   Conducted climate training through the Continuous Education Centre.

·        Community & Student Engagement:

o   Tree-Planting Campaign 2025 for carbon sequestration and campus greening.

o   Climate Champions student programme: outreach to schools and local communities.

·        Innovation & Entrepreneurship:

o   Warith Entrepreneurship Centre supports green startups and SDG-focused projects.

·        Green Infrastructure:

o   Buildings designed for daylight optimisation, passive cooling, and sensor-based energy management (82% of total building area meets smart/green standards).

o   Use of locally sourced materials and native landscaping to mitigate heat islands.

·        Future Plans:

o   Expand renewable generation capacity and biodiesel usage.

o   Embed climate literacy within curricula.

o   Strengthen climate resilience of university infrastructure.
