Warith Al-Anbiyaa University places great importance on the health and safety of its faculty members, staff, students, and visitors. The University believes that providing a safe and healthy working and learning environment is a fundamental pillar of sustainable development and social responsibility, guiding all its academic, administrative, and service-related activities.

Policy Objectives

This policy aims to:

1. Provide a safe and healthy work and learning environment, as free as possible from hazards, for all University members and visitors.
2. Prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses, and minimize their associated risks.
3. Ensure compliance with national and international laws, regulations, and guidelines related to occupational health and safety.
4. Establish a culture of safety and preventive awareness among all members of the university community.
5. Support the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those relating to good health and well-being, and decent work and economic growth.

Scope of Application

This policy applies to all University facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, administrative offices, service facilities, and outdoor spaces. It covers all employees, students, contractors, and visitors while present on campus.

Core Principles

• Management Commitment: University management is committed to providing the human and material resources necessary for the effective implementation of this policy.
• Prevention First: Priority is given to preventive measures and risk reduction before incidents occur.
• Shared Responsibility: Safety is a collective responsibility shared by management, employees, and students alike.
• Continuous Improvement: This policy and its associated procedures are subject to periodic review and development.
• Transparency and Reporting: Reporting of unsafe conditions or practices is encouraged without fear of disciplinary action when reported in good faith.

Responsibilities

University Management:

• Approve occupational health and safety policies and procedures and provide the resources necessary for their implementation.
• Ensure that facilities, laboratories, and equipment comply with approved technical and safety standards.

Occupational Health and Safety Committee/Unit:

• Monitor policy implementation, conduct periodic risk assessments, investigate incidents, and submit recommendations to University management.

Heads of Departments and Supervisors:

• Ensure staff compliance with safety procedures within their departments, and provide the necessary training and awareness.

Employees and Students:

• Comply with approved safety instructions and procedures, use personal protective equipment when required, and promptly report any accident or potential hazard.

Implementation Procedures

1. Risk Assessment: Conduct periodic risk assessments across University facilities, particularly laboratories, workshops, and technical facilities.
2. Training and Awareness: Organize regular training and awareness programs on general safety, fire prevention, first aid, and handling hazardous materials.
3. Emergency Preparedness: Develop emergency response plans (fire, evacuation, injuries), designate safe evacuation routes and assembly points, and conduct regular drills.
4. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Provide necessary protective equipment in laboratories and high-risk areas, and ensure its proper use.
5. Incident Reporting: Adopt a clear mechanism for reporting, documenting, and investigating accidents and injuries to prevent recurrence.
6. Periodic Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, electrical systems, fire safety systems, and ventilation systems.
7. Hazardous Waste Management: Establish safe procedures for handling and disposing of chemical and biological waste in accordance with environmental standards.

Legal Compliance

The University is committed to complying with applicable legislation, regulations, and government instructions in force in the Republic of Iraq regarding occupational health and safety, in addition to being guided by international best practices and standards wherever applicable.

Review and Update

This policy is subject to periodic review (at least annually) or whenever legislative, regulatory, or operational developments require it, to ensure its continued effectiveness and relevance to the University's needs.
