Water Pollution Prevention and Control

The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa implements institutional measures to prevent and control pollution of water systems and to monitor water quality on a regular basis. During 2025, the university maintained documented procedures for responding to water-related environmental incidents and established a periodic programme for water-quality examinations in cooperation with a specialized accredited laboratory.

Water-Related Environmental Incidents

During 2025, UOWA recorded and managed two (2) water-related environmental incidents. The incidents were addressed through the university’s established reporting, response, corrective-action, and follow-up procedures to prevent or minimize potential impacts on water and wastewater systems.

Total water-related environmental incidents recorded and managed in 2025: 2 incidents.

Water-Quality Monitoring Programme

As part of its preventive approach to water pollution, UOWA conducted regular water-quality examinations throughout 2025. The university cooperated with Warith Laboratories for Water and Food Safety, a non-governmental laboratory in Karbala that is ISO/IEC 17025 accredited, to support the reliability and quality of water testing.

The scheduled quarterly examinations were conducted on:

  • 15 January 2025
  • 15 April 2025
  • 15 July 2025
  • 15 October 2025

This represents four water-quality examinations during 2025, conducted at approximately three-month intervals.

The examinations were conducted to monitor relevant water-quality characteristics and support the early identification of potential pollution or changes in water quality. Depending on the applicable testing programme, relevant parameters may include pH, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), suspended solids, and microbiological indicators, as documented in the laboratory testing records.

Cooperation with an Accredited Laboratory

The cooperation with Warith Laboratories for Water and Food Safety provides an external laboratory component to UOWA’s water-quality monitoring programme. The laboratory is identified by the university as the first non-governmental laboratory in Karbala to obtain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

This cooperation strengthens the university’s approach to water-quality assurance by providing periodic laboratory examinations as part of its environmental monitoring and pollution-prevention activities.

Institutional Approach

UOWA combines incident prevention and response with regular external laboratory monitoring to support the protection of campus water systems. In 2025, the university documented and managed two water-related environmental incidents and conducted four scheduled water-quality examinations, with one examination approximately every three months.

The cooperation with an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory further supports the credibility of the university’s water-quality monitoring arrangements and demonstrates an ongoing institutional approach to preventing and controlling water-system pollution.
