Clean Energy Infrastructure

The university has continued to expand its renewable energy systems, integrating clean energy sources into campus operations and reducing reliance on conventional electricity.

Key Highlights:

·        Installed Capacity:
Total renewable capacity increased from 9,200 kW (2023) to 11,000 kW (2024) through additional solar PV stations installed on rooftops and administrative buildings.

·        Renewable Share:
Combined generation from solar and biodiesel reached 13,100 kWh, supplying 5.3% of total electricity demand.

·        Biodiesel (BD100):
BD100 biofuel now powers select generators and two vehicles, providing ~20% of the energy demand for those units.

·        System Benefits:

o   Reduces carbon emissions and operational costs.

o   Enhances energy security and resilience.

o   Strengthens alignment with Iraq’s clean energy transition goals.

Impact:
By diversifying its energy sources and incorporating renewables, UOWA reduces Scope 2 emissions and builds toward a future powered by sustainable energy.
