UOWA systematically collects, treats, and recycles inorganic waste, integrating campus-wide segregation, collection, and processing with the Directorate of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine and Karbala Municipality.
Current Practices & Impact (2024):
· Total inorganic waste: 612 tons
· Treated: 453 tons (~74% treatment rate, up from 68% in 2023)
· Breakdown:
o Paper: 311 tons
o Soft plastics: 26 tons
o Hard plastics: 22 tons
o Glass & metals: 94 tons

· Source segregation using colour-coded bins across campus
· Digitalisation reduces paper generation
