In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities), this policy seeks to eliminate exposure to tobacco-related pollutants, reduce waste from smoking materials, and promote responsible environmental behavior.

2. Policy Scope and Applicability
This policy applies to all university buildings, classrooms, laboratories, offices, green spaces, dormitories, cafeterias, and university-owned vehicles.
It also applies to all members of the university community, including students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors.
3. Policy Framework and Implementation
3.1 Smoke-Free Campus Directive
- Smoking, vaping, or the use of any tobacco or electronic nicotine delivery systems is strictly prohibited in all indoor and outdoor areas of the campus.
- Smoking is not permitted at building entrances, within vehicles, or near ventilation systems.
- The university enforces a complete ban rather than designated smoking zones to support health and sustainability objectives.
3.2 Health and Environmental Considerations
- The policy is grounded in scientific evidence linking smoking to health risks and environmental pollution, particularly the generation of non-biodegradable cigarette waste.
- The university recognizes tobacco smoke as an environmental pollutant and aligns its action with Iraq’s national public health and environmental protection regulations.
3.3 Awareness and Education
- The university conducts annual “Healthy Campus and Clean Air” campaigns to raise awareness about the health and environmental impacts of smoking.
