UOWA Input into National Policy on Clean Energy
On 24 January 2025, the Parliamentary Energy Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives hosted two UOWA experts: Assistant Professor Dr. Hassan Talib, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Dr. Hassan Ahmed Ibrahim. The Committee asked them to advise on a draft law covering renewable energy systems in investment and government projects and solar systems for homes.
The experts presented key observations on the draft law and pointed out gaps that should be amended in the public interest. They also advised the Committee to adopt a feed-in tariff instead of the proposed net metering system. This is direct input into national policy for SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
