University Collaboration with NGOs to Advance the Sustainable Development Goals

The President of Warith Al-Anbiya University Inspects Student Volunteer Medical Detachments Organized in Partnership with an International NGO During the Arbaeen Pilgrimage 2025/08/18

As part of the university's field monitoring of its voluntary community health initiatives serving Arbaeen pilgrims, the President of Warith Al-Anbiya University (peace be upon him), Professor Dr. Ibrahim Saeed Al-Hayawi, inspected one of the 5 medical detachments operated by 85 student volunteers from the College of Medicine in partnership with the International Imamiyya Organization (Imamia Medics International – IMI), an international non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to healthcare and humanitarian relief.

Operating 24 hours a day over 10 consecutive days, these voluntary detachments provided free primary healthcare, first aid, and emergency medical services to more than 12,500 pilgrims, supported by 22 supervising physicians, nurses, and NGO medical trainers from multiple countries to ensure rapid response to critical and emergency cases.

Professor Al-Hayawi emphasized that the student volunteers' participation in this joint university–NGO outreach programme represents a practical clinical application of their acquired medical skills and reflects the university's ongoing commitment to volunteerism, community engagement, and delivering accessible health services (SDG 3 & SDG 17) to esteemed pilgrims.

Warith Al-Anbiyaa University and the International Imamia NGO Advance Joint Research Programme and Publish Co-Authored Medical Studies at the 12th International Imamia Conference 2025/12/27

As part of a formal Joint Research Programme on Public Health and Mass-Gathering Medicine, Warith Al-Anbiyaa University (PBUH) and the International Imamia Organization (Imamia Medics International – IMI), an international non-governmental organization (NGO) with UN ECOSOC Special Consultative Status, convened researchers and specialist physicians from 20 Arab and foreign countries during the 12th International Imamia Conference to execute collaborative clinical studies and co-author peer-reviewed research papers.

Under this joint research programme, faculty members from the College of Medicine at Warith Al-Anbiyaa University and international IMI researchers launched a joint clinical screening study on early detection of pediatric cardiac conditions, conducting echocardiographic and clinical assessments on more than 400 schoolchildren across Karbala (University Pediatric Cardiac Study Report). In addition, the bilateral research teams co-authored and published joint peer-reviewed studies in the Scopus-indexed Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA), including:

  1. Joint Clinical & Educational Study: "Integrating clinical care and medical education during the Arbaeen mass gathering", evaluating 32,064 patient encounters and structured clinical rotations involving 20 medical students from Warith Al-Anbiyaa University alongside international NGO clinicians.
  2. Joint Research Methodology & Medical Education Paper: "Conference on Medical Education and Research Writings during Arbaeen at College of Medicine, University Warith Al-Anbiyaa, and University of Karbala), establishing cross-institutional research writing circles, qualitative research protocols, and responsible AI frameworks in clinical practice.

This joint university–NGO research programme directly advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—specifically SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—by translating collaborative field research with an international NGO into published scientific outputs and measurable community health interventions.

Advancing Digital Empowerment through Arab Collaboration: Joint Courses and Educational Materials Produced in 2025 2025/09/08 – Updated 2025/10/15

The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa signed and implemented a cooperation agreement in 2025 with the Arab Union for Digital Empowerment (an international non-governmental professional organization based in Libya), represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Abbas Al-Jubouri, and formalized by Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Saeed Al-Hayawi, President of the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa.

Rather than serving solely as a general framework, this partnership directly produced and delivered specialized educational courses, lab manuals, and open training materials in September–December 2025 through the College of Computer Science and Information Technology (supervised by Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haider Al-Ghanmi and Union Adviser Dr. Khalil Al-Tayyar):

  • Course 1 — Linux Systems Administration & Cybersecurity Infrastructure (5-Day Intensive Course & Practical Lab Manual, 2025): Co-developed and delivered with the Arab Union for Digital Empowerment, equipping undergraduate students with hands-on server administration, open-source infrastructure, and cybersecurity defense skills, concluding with a competitive practical assessment
  • Course 2 — Applied Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Foundations (2025 Training Course & Slide Deck Curriculum): Produced joint instructional modules and practical datasets covering data analytics, machine learning workflows, and AI integration for labour-market readiness.
  • Educational Material — Digital Transformation & Continuing Education Toolkit (October 2025): Co-authored digital competency training guidelines and workshop slides delivered during the joint implementation sessions launched on 15 October 2025

By co-producing and delivering these concrete courses and instructional materials in 2025, this partnership directly advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 4 (Quality Education): By co-creating free, hands-on technical courses and open digital learning materials for university students and staff.
  • SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure): By building practical competencies in open-source server infrastructure, AI, and data security.
  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): By translating cross-border Arab NGO–university collaboration into measurable educational outputs in 2025.
