The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa actively invests in a sustainable vehicle fleet to support low-carbon mobility on and off campus. The university currently operates 7 fully electric cars and 7 hybrid vehicles, primarily allocated for administrative duties, academic exchanges, and staff mobility between the main campus and affiliated institutions.
In addition, a shared bicycle programme has been introduced, providing 10 conventional bicycles and 6 electric bicycles for staff and student use. These options encourage healthier, emission-free transport within campus grounds and complement broader efforts to reduce car dependency.
To enhance accessibility, two of the university’s zero-emission vehicles are dedicated to offering free transport services for students and staff between the campus and nearby sites, including partner institutions. This initiative not only supports sustainability but also eases financial and logistical barriers to education.
The ratio of zero-emission vehicles to campus population is 0.26% (23 vehicles for 8,953 people), reflecting a steadily expanding commitment to low-emission mobility solutions. Looking forward, the university plans to expand this fleet with the integration of electric shuttle buses, further reducing its carbon footprint and improving sustainable urban mobility in Karbala.
These efforts directly contribute to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), while strengthening the university’s position as a regional model for low-emission campus transportation.
