Water Reuse Measurement

The University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa (UOWA) monitors the volume of water reused and recycled across campus as part of its institutional water-conservation programme.

During 2025, UOWA treated approximately 145,000 m³ of wastewater, of which 120,000 m³ was beneficially reused for irrigation and other suitable non-potable purposes.

Percentage of Treated Wastewater Reused

The proportion of treated wastewater beneficially reused is calculated as:

Volume of treated wastewater reused ÷ Total wastewater treated × 100
120,000 ÷ 145,000 × 100 = 82.76%

Approximately 82.76% of the wastewater treated by UOWA in 2025 was reused. This figure refers specifically to the reuse of treated wastewater and is distinct from the university's policy target of supplying 70% of campus irrigation demand with treated wastewater — the two measures use different denominators and describe different aspects of water-reuse performance.

Other Water Sources

UOWA also records other water sources that contribute to its broader water-conservation and resource-management activities. These are reported separately from treated wastewater reuse to ensure transparent, non-overlapping accounting.

Harvested rainwater is recorded as a distinct water source rather than as treated wastewater reuse, consistent with the university's water-accounting methodology.

Avoiding Double Counting

UOWA's reporting distinguishes clearly between treated wastewater reuse (120,000 m³), harvested rainwater, and other recycled water, each tracked and reported independently. The 120,000 m³ figure represents the principal, directly measured treated-wastewater reuse volume for 2025 and is the basis for the 82.76% reuse rate reported above. The three categories are not aggregated into a single combined reuse figure, as they draw on distinct sources and measurement methods.

UOWA's 2025 records demonstrate a measurable water-reuse programme, with 120,000 m³ of treated wastewater reused from 145,000 m³ treated, equivalent to 82.76%. The university maintains separate, independently verified records for harvested rainwater and other recycled water, ensuring transparent and methodologically sound reporting of its water-reuse performance.
