Extending Knowledge Beyond Campus: UOWA’s Community Outreach in 2024
At the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa (UOWA), education and service to society go hand in hand. In 2024, the University expanded its reach beyond the classroom through a series of outreach activities designed to support alumni, engage local residents, inspire school students, and provide essential services to vulnerable groups — including orphans and displaced communities.
Health and Medical Support for the Vulnerable
One of the most impactful initiatives came from the College of Medicine, which partnered with the Rahma Organization for Child Health to provide early cardiac screening for orphaned children in Karbala. Conducted under the supervision of the Dean of Medicine and in collaboration with the Imam al-Ridha Charity, the programme offered advanced examinations and medical advice, ensuring that this often-overlooked group received much-needed care.
Complementing this, the College of Nursing organised awareness campaigns in public schools, educating young students about the prevention of infectious diseases and the importance of nutrition. Meanwhile, the University also ran blood donation drives in partnership with the Karbala Health Department, directly contributing to the well-being of patients in need.
Humanitarian and Social Solidarity
Beyond healthcare, UOWA demonstrated its solidarity with communities in crisis. Humanitarian campaigns were launched to provide relief to victims of the Syrian earthquake, while local initiatives mobilised students and staff to distribute food baskets to needy families during Ramadan. The University also hosted a communal Iftar for orphaned girls, reinforcing the spirit of compassion and social responsibility.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Recognising that education extends far beyond campus walls, UOWA actively engaged with young learners in Karbala. Through the “Choose Your Path” programme, the University welcomed students from Distinguished Schools, offering academic and career guidance led by senior faculty members. Students from al-Warith Schools also visited the University for an educational and recreational trip, giving them a first-hand glimpse of university life. These outreach activities are designed to spark curiosity, provide mentorship, and help young people make informed choices about their academic and professional futures.
Civic Education and Public Dialogue
In parallel, UOWA contributed to public discourse by hosting workshops on civic engagement and economic reform. By creating spaces where citizens can engage with pressing national issues, the University underscores its role as both an educational institution and a driver of social development.
Lifelong Connections with Alumni
The University also sustains strong ties with its alumni community, inviting them to participate in professional development sessions and collaborative events. These connections create a two-way channel: alumni contribute valuable insights and experiences, while the University continues to support their lifelong learning.
A University with a Community Mission
Taken together, these diverse initiatives illustrate UOWA’s holistic approach to outreach: advancing knowledge, promoting health, inspiring youth, and supporting vulnerable communities. By addressing the needs of alumni, residents, school students, and orphans, the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa demonstrates that its mission extends far beyond campus — making education a living force for social good and aligning with global Sustainable Development Goals.
