Welcome to the Sustainability Pulse — the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa’s periodic update on green progress, innovations, and goals across our campus. In each issue, we spotlight how we’re advancing energy efficiency, expanding clean energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and embedding sustainability in everyday life and operations.
1. Energy Efficiency (ECE)
We believe the first step toward sustainability is using less energy smartly. Over the past year, the university has replaced over 2,100 conventional bulbs with LEDs, upgraded 70% of our air conditioning units to inverter models, and rolled out energy-saving policies for office and lab equipment. These actions are already delivering measurable electricity savings and driving campuswide awareness.
2. Clean Energy Infrastructure (CEI)
To shift toward a low-carbon future, we’re diversifying our energy portfolio. We increased our installed renewable capacity from 9,200 kW in 2023 to 11,000 kW in 2024 through rooftop solar installations. Biofuel (BD100) now powers certain generators and vehicles, covering ~20% of their energy needs. These investments reduce reliance on fossil fuel electricity and enhance resilience.
3. GHG Emissions & Carbon Footprint (GHG/ECF)
Tracking our emissions is crucial. In 2024, our total carbon footprint was 724 tones CO₂, with the largest share (67%) from direct, on-site sources (Scope 1). Purchased electricity (Scope 2) contributed 16%, and scope 3 (travel, off-campus activities) made up 17%. Strategies include expanding solar, enhancing transport options, promoting digital learning to cut travel, and tree planting for carbon sequestration.
4. Our Approach & Vision
Sustainability at UOWA is not an add-on; it’s embedded across policy, infrastructure, education, and operations. From revised procurement standards to outreach and collaboration, we strive to lead by example. The goal: a well-balanced, low-carbon, resilient campus that teaches as much through practice as through theory.
